The Uganda Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that all motor vehicle registration services across the country are now fully operational, easing concerns among motorists and prospective vehicle owners who rely on the system for timely registration and number plate processing.
In an update shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Ministry confirmed that key services, including first-time motor vehicle registration and number plate issuance, are running smoothly and without interruption. This development is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve efficiency, transparency, and public confidence in government service delivery.
Alongside the resumption of services, the Ministry has issued a strong warning to the public, particularly first-time vehicle owners, to remain vigilant against fraudsters and unauthorized middlemen who may attempt to exploit applicants during the registration process. Officials note that such individuals often charge unnecessary fees or provide misleading information, despite having no official role in the system.
To protect applicants, the Ministry is encouraging motorists to use the official Motor Vehicle Registration monitoring dashboard available through the government portal. The platform allows users to track and verify the status of their vehicle registration and number plate processing in real time. According to the Ministry, the verification tool is designed to promote transparency, prevent exploitation, and ensure that all registrations are handled strictly through approved government channels.
The Ministry has reiterated its call for the public to rely solely on official systems and procedures when seeking motor vehicle registration services, emphasizing that doing so is the safest and most reliable way to complete the process successfully. Vehicle owners can use the vehicle registration monitoring dashboard/tool to verify the status of their number plate/registration process through the online portal https://portal.mvr.go.ug .
