Drivers engaged in a tire training session

With rising concerns over road crashes and driver preparedness in East Africa, members of the Road safety Coalition Uganda – ROSACU are rolling out targeted initiatives to improve safety on the highways. Responsive Drivers Uganda, a ROSACU member recently led a five-day training in Arusha, Tanzania, for VIP drivers from Kenya and the Tanzanian Parliament, focusing on defensive driving, tire management, and foundational safety practices, emphasizing the principle that “safety starts with the basics.

The program, held from August 18 to 22, 2025 aimed to equip drivers responsible for transporting high-profile officials with practical skills to enhance road safety and reduce risks on busy East African highways. This initiative was coordinated in collaboration with the East and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) in Kampala, highlighting regional cooperation in promoting professional driving standards. The training also strengthened awareness around preventive measures, vehicle handling, and safety protocols as such initiatives are critical in fostering a culture of responsibility and vigilance among drivers serving VIPs. The successful completion of this course marks another milestone for ROSACU and its members in a mission to professionalize driving and promote road safety across East Africa.
