The Koboko-Yumbe-Moyo (KYM) road project, led by the Ministry of Works and Transport with support from the World Bank, is upgrading the 105 km corridor from gravel to bituminous standard. Alongside the economic benefits, the project integrates essential road safety measures, including pedestrian crossings, walkways, and other interventions designed to reduce crash risks.
Complementing these efforts, URRENO is implementing a comprehensive road safety sensitization and awareness program along the corridor. By engaging directly with schools, transport operators, and community groups, URRENO promotes safe practices such as speed management in high-risk areas, helmet and reflective gear usage among boda boda riders, and increased vigilance around construction zones.
This initiative empowers communities to identify hazards, protect children and other vulnerable road users, and advocate for safer road behavior, ensuring that the benefits of infrastructure development are matched by improved safety for all road users.
